I've attended women's games during the tournament for the past 5 years...it appears that the officials are getting worse in reining in this type of behavior. I like it when the officials let the women play and refrain from calling ticky-tacky fouls, but what Riley did to White would be a criminal battery charge anywhere other than in a game.

The problem is that after the refs have let rough play rule for 2/3rds of a game, then, they change the "rules" on the players at crunch time & start calling "touch" fouls. There must be consistent officiating so the athletes can play their best and know how the game is going to be called from the getgo.

Your previous article, "Shut Up and Play" expressed the feelings of many women basketball fans. I was at a college game and the fans were actually passing a copy of your article around approvingly. The women's game needs to copy the best moves, shots, & plays from the men's game, but all of the chest-thumping look-at-me stuff has no place in the women's game. We're better than that!

Thank you LeAnne for such a finely written and sorely needed piece. It is somewhat depressing to see this type of behavior creep into the women's game for this behavior is the reason I quit watching NBA games and have cut back my viewing of the men's college games to the NCAA Tournament. I have a couple of nephews beginning to really get into basketball and I have used these types of incidents as "coaching" opportunities.

Please continue to "call a spade" as such. Excellent writing.

Just another way of saying, "Shut up and play."
I'll drink to that!
